Eid Al Fitr is almost here and we couldn’t be more excited. As we near the end of Ramadan we get this bittersweet feeling, on one hand, we want to continue the Ramadan rituals but on the other hand, we are looking forward to Eid Al Fitr and its festivities.
Eid Al Fitr for all Muslims around the world is a joyous occasion that lasts 3 days. The first day of Eid is determined through the moon sighting. This year, the moon sighting will be held on Saturday, April 30th to determine whether Eid Al Fitr will commence the following day on May 1st or if it will be on May 2nd.
During Eid Al Fitr, we celebrate the end of Ramadan – the month of fasting. The first day of Eid starts with Eid Prayers where everyone; mothers, fathers, and kids, gather at the mosques to pray together in unison. Following the prayers, people enjoy a long-awaited breakfast and return to their regular daily eating routine.
While the adults celebrate with food, kids celebrate with sweets, gifts, and money given to them by their parents, family members, and other adults in the mosque before and after prayers. It is also a tradition among many to shop for new clothes before Eid so that they enjoy Eid with new clothes and at times a new look!
